Description
Rawlings Sandlot 12.5" Baseball First Base Mitt: SFM18S
When you hear the call of the Sandlot...be sure to throw this Rawlings mitt on your hand and take your rightful place at first base!
mitt Benefits
Excitement is definitely going to surround Rawlings’ Sandlot Series of mitts. Rawlings is the best at designing softer mitts that still have professional looks. If you saw an opposing defender rocking this Sandlot mitt out there on the diamond, the mitt could easily pass off as one of the highest offerings from Rawlings just in regard to its look.
Be sure to note that Rawlings has built this mitt with a full-grain leather shell that is pre-oiled. As well, the inside of the mitt is going to have finger stall backings built with non-leather material that is super comfortable. This design is going to allow for the mitt to come butter-soft in its feel and require very little break-in from the player.
In regard to an age recommendation, the Sandlot Series is going to be designed mostly for baseball players that are between 10 and 15 years of age. However, we think that players younger than that age range will be interested due to the soft feel that will allow them to close the mitt even if the fit isn’t perfect. As well, we believe a lot of adults that just want a mitt for playing catch will be interested.
This first base mitt is going to be able to pick every throw that is off-target. The 12.5" length will give you plenty of reach and the double post web should easily secure every baseball that enters the mitt!
Warranty
You can buy this Rawlings mitt with confidence as it is covered by a twelve (12) month manufacturer’s warranty period (Be sure to note that the warranty does not cover mitts that were placed in a microwave or oven, mitts that have been over-oiled or mitts with broken laces). If you buy the mitt from JustGloves and find yourself with a possible warranty issue, please reach out to the JustGloves Glove Experts. They will be sure to get you the info needed to reach out to Rawlings and begin the warranty replacement process.

Solid mit Maika Player
Pros: Good for the price
Cons: Nothing really just could be a bit better leather
Steal!!! Ayden O'Daniel Player
Pros: This glove is AWSOME! I bought this glove because I had to play first unexpectedly and this looked like a pretty good price. It came very fast, the leather is not soft but not firm either, and breaks in great. This glove is a huge steal, you will not find another glove under $200 that's as good as this one. I imagine the other sandlot gloves are great too.
Cons: ZERO
Great mitt for youth secondary 1st baseman Player
Pros: Broke in quite nicely, great durable leather, will last a long time
Cons: Was a quite stiff out of the package, required hours of mallet work and pounding
Solid mitt for a young First Basemen Lou Gagliano Coach
Pros: Seems to be nearly identical to the Rawlings Breakout line first base glove that costs almost twice as much. I personally think the Sandlot looks better with it's classic color scheme and the preferable indent branding over the stamp style on the Breakout. On looks alone this could easily be mistaken for a higher end glove.
Cons: Nothing really. I don't think you could expect any more at this price point.
Great Youth First Basemen's Mitt Anonymous Coach
Pros: Breaks in easily, Well constructed with high quality leather. Perfect glove for a 10-13 year old. Don't think you could find a better glove for the price!
Cons: None yet.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.
The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.
In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.
In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.
The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.
Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
